Virginia’s governor, Ralph Northam, is the 73rd Governor of Virginia. Before he took this position, he served in many other capacities like being an Army doctor, business owner, pediatric neurologist, and state Senator and Lieutenant Governor. He is from Nassawadox, Virginia and attended Eastern Virginia Medical School. After he graduated, he took the role of the second lieutenant in the United States Army. There, he served for eight years. He then served in Germany as an Army doctor during Operation Desert Storm. When he returned, him and his wife decided to move to Hampton Roads. There, he founded Children’s Specialty Group, which helped to provide pediatric care to patients. He also was involved in many volunteer jobs and had the opportunity to serve his community through being a medical director for the Edmarc Hospice for Children in Portsmouth. He spent 18 years volunteering there.

By examining Ralph Northam’s life and experiences, he truly cares for people and the health and safety of the state of Virginia. He has worked well in volunteer jobs and serving our country through being a part of the Army. He also displays leadership very well through these roles and has been able to serve many people.

He was familiar with the political world due to the role he served as lieutenant governor of Virginia from 2014 to 2018. Northam has experienced some issues in office, but one of the main ones was when a racist photo came to light of Northam and some of his advisors and Northam claimed it was not him. This photo depicted the KKK and blackface, which is highly offensive. This situation was not handled in the best way because of the fact that Northam is not a natural politician and most of his friends are younger. Nevertheless, this mistake might determine Northam’s tenure.
